FNLC Events
FNLC is active with our work on Projects, Advocacy and Public Engagement.
Our FNLC Events are an integral part of all three of these efforts, as we bring to the public our information about what we are doing. Below is a list of our eight annual events:
Ag Practices Day:
Each year in January or February we host a meeting in conjunction with UVM-Extension to discuss the results of our past ag practices work, the science behind the practices, and plans for the coming spring and summer. The primary audience is farmers, but all are welcome. In 2012 the meeting was held at Champlain Valley Equipment in St. Albans, and they presented information about tillage equipment and GPS guidance.
Tyler Place Dinner for FNLC:
Each year in the last week of May the Tyler Place hosts a dinner for the members of Friends of Northern Lake Champlain, along with state and federal agency officials and other guests. FNLC provides information about the on-going implementation work in northern Lake Champlain, and scientists and agency leaders provide information about the status of Lake Champlain waters and programs.
Bike for the Lake, Champlain Century:
The second annual Bike for the Lake will be on June 16, 2012, please find plenty of information about the Ride elsewhere on this website. This will again be a century ride (100 miles) with shorter loops of 50 and 25 miles.
Farm Walk- demonstration and public meeting:
Each year in June FNLC hosts a public meeting in conjunction with UVM-Extension to discuss ag practices that improve water quality, including an on-site farm walk to look at the practices. The primary audience is farmers, but all are welcome. For the past several years this meeting has been held at the farm of Wayne and Nancy Fiske in Franklin.
Georgia Pig Roast:
In late June FNLC puts on a Pig Roast and BBQ at the Georgia Town Beach, in cooperation with the Georgia Conservation Commission and the Georgia Shore Association. This year the Pig Roast will be at 6:00 pm on Friday, June 22. $6 per person, includes pork, side dishes, dessert and tableware. Bring your own drink; no glass bottles.
Summer Islands Event:
In 2012 we plan to have our first annual FNLC event in the Champlain Islands. Please return here for details as we get closer to this July/August event.
Run for the Lake:
The third annual Run for the Lake will be on Sept. 9, 2012, please find plenty of information about the Run elsewhere on this website. This is a major fundraising effort for FNLC, and we very much appreciate the support of our Sponsors. Our sponsors and members provide the go-power that enables us to do all of our work.
Annual Meeting:
The 2012 FNLC Annual Meeting will be on October 10, 2012. At our annual meetings we elect new board members and provide information about our projects and priorities. We also have presentation from scientists and state government leaders about the work on the northern Lake.
